Description

In operation since 1780, Clarington Forge is the last remaining forge in England that still produces garden tools. The head of each of these spades and forks is individually forged from a single piece of steel for strength and durability.

In fact, these are the strongest gardening tools we offer, with a strength rating far in excess of the British standard (which specifies that digging tools bear at least 121 lb of force at the end of the handle, and border tools bear 88 lb, without breakage). Though robust, they are not indestructible, so we do not recommend them for uprooting saplings or prying boulders.

The shaft is American white ash with a traditional wood/steel combination D-handle grip. All the spades are treaded for comfortable digging.

The digging tools are perfect for heavy digging, double digging, ground preparation and harvesting. Both the spade and fork are 42" long. The spade has an 11 1/2" × 7 1/2" head and weighs 5 lb 8 oz; the fork has a 12" × 7 1/2" head and weighs 5 lb.

The border tools are smaller, making them more suited to lighter digging or for gardeners with less strength. Both the spade and fork are 40" long and have 9" × 5 1/2" heads. The spade weighs 4 lb 12 oz; the fork weighs 4 lb 11 oz.

The tools in these sets are also sold individually.

Built to last a lifetime.
