It was our intent to have this hardware catalog in your hands a month earlier than is the case. If you have been impatiently waiting because we missed our promised date, we can only recommend that you look on this positively; because of our tardiness there has been one less strain on your assets in the last month.
From now on, we intend to publish a hardware catalog each fall separately from our tool catalog. We would like to keep them combined, but there are weight limitations in bulk mail that prevent this.
Although there is a lot of wonderful new product that I could draw your attention to (such as the magnificent chest handles on the back cover that are very traditional and all of which we have had made to our own specifications), there is another aspect to this catalog that I would like to point out. There is a current trend in mail-order retailing to carry only products that sell for $5 or more. You will find hundreds of items in this catalog that sell for less than $5 and hundreds more that sell for less than $1. We make no money on these items because the cost of picking them and packaging them is greater than the mark-up. On the other hand, since we want you to come to us for the bigger ticket items where we do make money, we feel that we should also be around to serve you when you want only 60 cents worth of hanger bolts. All we can say is that when you finally get around to redoing the kitchen, we would appreciate it if you would remember who sold you the hanger bolts.
