Designed and made in Canada, this hat is based on the classic hat Alex Tilley introduced in 1980 but customized with a few details that make this special Lee Valley edition uniquely our own.
With the same instantly recognizable profile and rugged construction that has made the original a perennial favorite, it has our logo embroidered on the side, accented by a band of navy blue trim around the brim. We added a hanging loop that makes it easier to hang the hat on a peg or coat hook, and as a final touch, stitched inside the crown is a poem by Lee Valley staff, a fitting tribute to the spirit of adventure that underpins the hat’s design.
Made from thick 100% cotton duck fabric that is highly durable yet lightweight and breathable, it has a UV protection factor (UPF) rating of 50+, with a deep brim (2 5/8" front, 2 3/4" back, 2 1/8" sides) for effective protection against the sun’s rays. A concealed pocket in the crown has a secure hook-and-loop closure to keep small valuables safe. To help you stay cool and comfortable in sunny weather, it has side vents reinforced with brass grommets, and a moisture-wicking Hydrofil liner in the headband. The tuck-away chin strap helps it stay put in windy weather, but if it does happen to blow off your head when you’re on the water, the hat’s water-repellent finish keeps it from becoming saturated, so it remains afloat for extended periods. Machine washable.
