This semi-annual publication celebrates the preservation, research and restoration of historic furniture. Its multi-disciplinary approach brings together the perspectives of furniture makers, conservators and scholars to span woodworking past and present, with focus on pre-industrial tools and methods.

This issue contains two articles by Joshua Klein, one on selecting, restoring and using wooden planes, and the other on analyzing the process of making a table with hand tools, breaking it down into carefully ordered steps to make efficient use of your time in the workshop. Jim Tolpin offers detailed instruction on making, truing and using a wooden straightedge, and Vic Tesolin examines the use of axes for shaping and preparing stock. Michael Updegraff shares insights he gained by using modern tools to measure 18th- and early 19th-century furniture pieces, shedding light on the accuracy of period craftsmen. Other articles cover topics ranging from drawer-making to timber-framing. More like a book than a typical magazine, it is printed on heavy stock paper and richly illustrated with color photos.
