Narrow Folding Rocking Chair Plan

by Lee Valley

Offert en anglais seulement

In the 1850s, when a rocking chair was a standard possession of North American settlers, the Collignon brothers of New Jersey invented a line of folding rocking chairs that could be more easily transported in a covered wagon. Based on these rockers, our narrow chair plan preserves the character of this style.

The completed chair is 38" high, 17" wide and 33" deep, and folds to 8" thick. Its compactness makes it well suited for any veranda, cabin or porch. The plan includes fully diagrammed instructions and full-size templates for all curved pieces.

We recommend exterior-grade Baltic birch plywood for the curved pieces (chairs made with plywood usually have opaque finishes). Strip-laminated solid wood, albeit more challenging, is an equally suitable material.

A hardware pack specifically tailored to this plan is available separately.
