Tansu (the Japanese word for “trunk”) refers to a variety of trunks, chests, boxes and storage cabinetry popular in Japan from about 1650 to 1920. Combining the skills of the cabinetmaker, blacksmith and lacquer artist, Tansu can run the gamut from simple unadorned cabinetry to ornate chests using 100 or more pieces of hardware.
These painted black L-braces are formed from 1.5mm thick steel , 17mm (just shy of 11/16”) wide. The exposed faces have an embossed texture to give a forged look. The leaves are 120mm and 70mm long.
