Discontinued. Limited stock.

First published nearly 200 years ago, this anonymously written 1839 novel follows the fictional career of Thomas, a young 19th-century English cabinetmaker’s apprentice, through his training in traditional joinery and casework techniques. It is an eye-opening glimpse into 19th-century cabinetry, with much to teach woodworkers in this century about traditional hand tools.

This historical reprint is based on high-resolution scans of one of the early copies, and designed to imitate the format of the original, though made with a sturdier cover and heavier paper to better preserve the work. This is a special edition, limited to a single print run, to celebrate the anniversary of the expanded version printed in 2009 (which we carry as 20L0308).

Hardcover, 4 1/8" × 6 3/8", 120 pages, reprinted in 2019.
