10S1072 – Green-Wood Spoon Carving Kit
BeaverCraft is a small manufacturer that has been producing well-made yet inexpensive carving tools in Kyiv, Ukraine, since 2014. Despite the enormous challenges of operating in a war zone, they continue to build both their product line and their reputation among woodcarvers.
This kit contains all the tools needed to get started in green-wood spoon carving, a traditional technique that uses freshly cut wood, which retains much of its natural moisture, so it is typically softer and easier to carve than seasoned wood. The included tools cover the entire process, from harvesting your own wood to carving the final shape. Since using freshly cut wood is fundamental to the craft, a wooden blank is not supplied with this kit.
The included bushcraft hatchet has an ash handle and a high-carbon steel head with a 3" wide convex-ground edge and an extended beard, permitting good control for roughing out a spoon blank. Measuring about 11 5/8" long overall and weighing less than 1 3/4 lb, it is easy to carry in a pack. A fitted cowhide leather sheath protects the edge when not in use.
For shaping the spoon, the kit includes a slöyd-style whittling knife with a 3 1/8" blade and a hook knife with a 2 3/8" open-curve blade for hollowing the bowl. Each has a high-carbon steel blade and oak handle, and is supplied with its own leather sheath.
Also included are a small leather carving bib, used to brace the wood comfortably against your chest while working, and an illustrated instruction guide.
Not available for shipment to Québec.
