The set includes a lightweight camping hatchet and a heftier splitting axe. In our tests, the hatchet did an impressive job of preparing kindling, limbing timber, and even light carving in both green and dry wood, while the splitting axe made fast work of splitting dry hardwood logs.
Each has a hardened steel head (Rc51-55) with a durable corrosion-resistant coating. The fiberglass-reinforced nylon handles are rated for use in temperatures as low as -22°F (-30°C), minimizing risk of breakage, and are overmolded with tough TPR (thermoplastic rubber) for reliable grip.
Each comes with a sturdy plastic storage guard, which covers the edge and can be wall mounted to hold the tool securely but readily accessible. The hatchet is 9 7/8" long and weighs 1.4 lb; the splitting axe is 28" long and weighs 5 1/2 lb.
