05P8222 - Veritas Miniature Bench Plane
This 1:3-scale version of our small bevel-up smooth plane is only 3 1/2" long and 13/16" wide.
Fully functional, it has a 5/8" wide A2 blade (0.06" thick) with a 25° bevel angle that, together with the 13° bed angle, provides an effective cutting angle of 38°. The stainless-steel Norris-style adjuster lets you set the blade with precision.
The body is made from investment-cast stainless steel and has a fixed mouth, machined sides and a ground sole. The front knob and rear tote are hardwood. Weighs about 2 1/4 oz.
Made in Canada, it comes in a French-fitted embossed leatherette case.

The stainless-steel Norris-style adjuster combines depth and lateral control in one knob: turn it to advance the A2 blade until it lightly grazes a test scrap, then adjust laterally until the blade sits square in the fixed mouth.
It cuts the same way a full-size bevel-up smooth plane does: push it forward over the workpiece with light, even pressure, taking thin shavings rather than deep cuts.
Hone the 25° bevel on the A2 blade the same way you would any bevel-up plane iron, working through progressively finer stones until the edge is polished. Combined with the 13° bed angle, that bevel gives a 38° effective cutting angle.
Although it would make a beautiful display piece, this miniature bench plane is fully functional. The 5/8" A2 blade on this plane takes real shavings, though its scale suits fine detail work or a collector's bench rather than everyday stock removal.
