Veritas Low-Angle Block PlaneMade in Canada

  • 12° Bed Angle for End Grain:: The low 12° bed gives a cutting angle of 37° with the included 25° blade, excelling at end-grain work where higher-angle planes tend to tear.
  • Combined Blade Advance and Lateral Adjust:: The single adjustment mechanism controls both blade depth and lateral positioning simultaneously, described as the most sensitive and accurate available.
  • Tall Side Wings for Shooting:: The high wings sit at a machined 90° to the sole, making the plane well suited for use in a shooting board for trimming miters and end grain.
  • Finger Grips for Control:: Recessed grips in each side of the body let you choke up on the plane for additional control in fine, precise work.
  • Adjustable Nosepiece That Won't Overdrive:: The nosepiece does not extend past the plane body, so it cannot be driven into the blade if the plane is dropped — a practical safety detail for bench use.
  • Two Guide Screws Prevent Blade Shift:: Dual guide screws hold the blade firmly during use, reducing the tendency for the blade to shift laterally under load.
  • Choice of Blade Steel:: Available with a chatterfree 25° blade in A2, O1, or PM-V11 tool steel; lapped 38° and 50° bevel blades for difficult grain sold separately.

This low-angle block plane is a delight to use. With its 12° bed angle, it excels at end-grain work.

The tall side wings are ideal for shooting, and finger grips in the sides improve control. The combined blade advance and lateral adjust is the most sensitive, accurate adjustment mechanism available. Two guide screws prevent blade shifting. The ductile cast iron body can take hard knocks, and the adjustable nosepiece does not extend past the body, so it cannot be driven into the blade if you drop the plane. The plane is machined to exacting standards, the milled sides and sole surface ground to a fine finish.

Each includes a chatterfree 25° blade in A2, O1 or PM-V11 tool steel. For working difficult wood, lapped 38° and 50° bevel blades are available separately.
