About Veritas seconds: stock offered here has some minor cosmetic flaw – a scratch, a pit in the casting or tiny blemishes – but the plane, blade and box are functionally perfect. Quantities of seconds are limited and expected to sell out quickly.
This set combines our large router plane with a 1/4" straight cutter and a box to keep the plane and extra blades and accessories (sold separately) organized, accessible and portable.
The large router plane is an invaluable tool for work on stopped or through dadoes and grooves, or for any work that requires an area cut to a precise depth. It has a fine screw-feed mechanism for controlled adjustment to a maximum depth of 1" and, unique to the large router plane, a spring-loaded blade-clamping collar that holds the blade in position when the collar is loosened, providing tactile feedback when making adjustments. The included 1/4" blade is made from high-carbon steel.
The 10" × 10 1/2" × 5 1/8" tall box is precisely milled from Baltic birch plywood and has a clear acrylic sliding lid. It has a shallow recess in the floor of the box for the large plane to nest in, along with spots for seven blades. Should you wish to expand the system, there are spaces for the fence, sharpening jig and hex keys and an additional recess for our medium router plane (a highly complementary plane that accepts the same blades as the large) with room left over for other items such as our blade roll. Assembly required; hardware included.
