58B2509 - 1/2" Bowl Gouge
This good-quality deep-fluted bowl gouge represents excellent value. Milled from 6542 high-speed steel (an alloy similar to M2) and hardened to Rc60-62, it comes sharpened ready for use.
Used in face-plate work, the gouge has a backswept fingernail grind for a smooth finish on crossgrain. It measures about 22" overall with a substantial 16" long ash handle that is comfortable in the hand, allows excellent control, and provides significant leverage during heavy work.
Though this tool is ideal for the budget-conscious beginner, experienced turners will find it useful for experimenting with different grinds.
