Concalo Alves (Astronium spp.) – Sometimes called tigerwood for its orange-brown wood interspersed with contrasting streaks of dark brown to black. Although it is very dense and hard, and often has interlocking grain, it is relatively easy to turn with well-sharpened tools.
Sized for small turnings, this blank can also be useful when you need only a small amount of wood, such as for inlays, plugs, splines or other decorative accents.
