Festool Carvex Jigsaw – Setting the Pendulum & Cutting Speed
The Carvex jigsaw offers the option of orbital cutting motion that allows the saw to cut aggressively and prolongs the blade life. It also has variable speed control to suit the type and thickness of material. Learn how to use these features here.
Setting the Pendulum
The Carvex jigsaw has four settings (0-3) for the pendulum stroke, ranging from a wide orbit to zero orbit (for example, for cutting metal or plastic). The larger the orbit, the more aggressive the cut, and hence the rougher the cut may be (Photo 1). Choosing the proper pendulum stroke will help you achieve the desired result or speed.

These pendulum setting guidelines are given to help you set the stroke that suits the work. The setting can be changed before or during a cut.
0 (zero pendulum stroke) – steel, aluminum, ceramic, all smooth cuts, or when using a tungsten carbide blade (Photo 2)
1 – thinner wood and plastics
2 – general application
3 (max pendulum stroke) – aggressive cuts (Photo 3)

Choosing the Cutting Speed
Carvex jigsaws have six speed settings, including an automatic speed setting (“A” on the speed dial) (Photo 4). In this setting, the saw starts with a reduced speed before reaching the maximum speed during a cut, allowing you to position the saw blade with your cut-line at the start. The speed dial may be adjusted while the saw is running.

As a general guideline, choose the proper blade for the material, and set the speed dial as follows.
