Festool Rotex Sander – Maintenance & Safety

The Rotex is straightforward and easy to use, but like any power tool, it’s important to look after it and use it safely.

Is there any maintenance I should perform? How do I use my sander safely?

The most common part to wear is the brake for the sanding pad. If the pad takes a long time to stop spinning after the sander is turned off, check the rubber collar. Replace it if it has worn out (Photos 5 & 6).

Other than that, maintenance is minimal. Use a dust extractor vacuum to periodically clean under the sanding pad and around the motor intakes.

Wear proper safety gear when operating a machine, and observe these safety guidelines and all other safety advice given in the user manual.

  • Avoid using the sander in a wet environment.

  • Let the motor come to a stop before placing the sander on the bench or changing sandpaper.

  • Unplug the machine before changing accessories.
