99W2047 – Set of 4 Richter Butt Chisels
Special buy. Limited stock.
Part of their premium Richter chisel line, these butt chisels are made in the Czech Republic to Narex’s highest standards.
Despite the name, butt chisels lend themselves well to much more than creating mortises for installing butt hinges. Shorter than typical bench chisels, they are robust, easy to control and efficient at removing large amounts of material quickly.
Combining premium materials with skilled workmanship, they have blades made of chrome-vanadium steel, hardened to Rc61-63 and cryogenically treated to toughen the steel without making it brittle. Made to strict specifications, they are ground flat to within ±0.1mm along the first 2/3 of the blade as measured from the tip, and are sharpened to a keen edge that needs only light honing before use. They take and hold a fine edge.
To permit the sidewall clearance needed to work in narrow recesses, the blade has a tapered shape and narrow lands, which have rounded-over edges to reduce the risk of accidental cuts.
The European ash handle has a comfortable contoured shape and a domed end to resist chipping from mallet blows. It is fitted with a leather shock washer and a heavy-gauge ferrule turned from solid stainless steel.
The set of four includes standard 1/2", 3/4" and 1" widths, plus an extra-wide 1 1/2" size made exclusively for Lee Valley. Well balanced, with impressive fit and finish throughout, all are about 7" overall with blades approximately 2 1/4" long.
Available in limited quantities, these are well-priced chisels for this level of quality.
