Red Palm (Cocos nucifera) – The wood of the coconut palm tree, which is in the grasses and bamboos family, is not classified as a hardwood or a softwood. Light brown or reddish brown densely interspersed with darker reddish brown fiber, it is straight grained with a medium to fine texture and no rings or knots, but its uneven, fibrous consistency makes it difficult to work and highly prone to tear-out and splintering, so it demands very sharp tools.
Nominal measurements are 3/4" square by 5" long.
